The United States Embassy in Accra has emphasised the importance of proper visa procedures for Ghanaians planning to attend major international events in the US, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The embassy is focusing on ensuring that travellers understand legal requirements and avoid falling victim to scams or illegal entry methods that could jeopardise their plans or lead to legal consequences.
Consul General of the US Embassy in Accra, Elliot Fertik, outlined the embassy’s dedication to public education about the visa application process, aiming to dispel misinformation and promote compliance with US immigration laws.
“We are committed to educating Ghanaians about the visa process so that they can avoid any problems or complications,” Fertik cautioned.
Security remains a top priority for US authorities, who stress that thorough vetting procedures are in place to protect national interests.
“The department takes a careful review of the information that violates visa eligibility, including arrest, criminal convictions and overstays. We use all available tools to ensure we secure the national security of the United States and enforce compliance with our laws,” Elliot Fertik mentioned.
He further expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, encouraging football fans to continue supporting the national team and to use the appropriate processes when applying for a visa.
The Consul General reaffirmed America’s readiness to host both global sporting events and its commitment to welcoming international visitors who comply with US immigration laws.
