Organizers of the Open Our Borders Demonstration at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region have described as fulfilling, the fact that their concerns have been well articulated.

The Organisers hope their message will get the prompt attention it deserves following their presentation of a petition to the MCE for Ketu South on the need for government to open the borders which was closed 17 months ago.

Thousands of residents in the Municipality yesterday poured onto the streets to protest and demand the reopening of the Aflao border after months of closure.

The residents argued that air borders, which were closed together with land borders due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, have been reopened, but there are no signs to replicate same for land borders.

MP for Ketu South, Dzifa Abla Gomashie is the lead organizer.

Meanwhile the Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa said the concerns raised by residents for the reopening of the Aflao border requires a bit of time and consultation for a concrete decision to be made.

He explains that the determination of whether the border should be reopened lies within the mandate of leaders of the West African sub-regional bloc and not the personal decision of President Akufo-Addo.
