The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has denied media reports claiming that about 300 of its staff across the country have not received their salaries for the past ten months.
In a statement released on October 8, 2025, the Agency described the reports as inaccurate, explaining that its Chief Executive Officer, Malik Basintale, only assumed office in February 2025, making it impossible for him to owe staff ten months of unpaid salaries.
According to YEA, all employees verified and approved on the official payroll have been paid consistently from February to September 2025. The Agency added that none of its legitimate staff have been left out of payment.
Management also explained that a comprehensive staff audit was carried out earlier in the year to ensure that only verified workers remained on the payroll. The exercise, it said, was meant to protect the Agency’s integrity and promote transparency and accountability.
YEA clarified that some staff had expired contracts before the current CEO took office. Those affected were asked to reapply for renewal, and those whose contracts were approved have since been reinstated and paid.
The Agency assured the public that it remains committed to the welfare of its employees and continues to create sustainable job opportunities for young people across Ghana.
It further expressed concern about reports of hardship and unemployment-related challenges among the youth, saying that YEA’s ongoing efforts are focused on supporting young Ghanaians through employment and empowerment initiatives.
