The Daily Graphic congratulates the University of Ghana for exceeding its target of attaining gender parity in enrollment ahead of the 2020 deadline. The paper says the feat, which is unprecedented in the university’s history will go a long way in providing equal opportunities for females to acquire tertiary education, and called on other tertiary institutions to emulate it. The Graphic says the increase in enrollment must be sustained to ensure that the parity is not just at a particular level but throughout all the programmes offered at the tertiary level.

The Ghanaian Times is of the firm conviction that commercial motorcycles and tricycles also known as ‘Okada” should not be legalised in the country. According to the paper, apart from the frightening statistics that show that the death toll of riders are increasing at an alarming rate, motorcycle crashes are estimated to have contributed to 30 percent of deaths on the roads. This, the paper says, is mainly due to the refusal of riders to adhere to safety regulations. The Times says legalising the activities of these commercial motorcyles and tricycles will amount to legalising lawlessness and an increase in crime. It rather calls on government and other stakeholders to enforce the law banning ‘Okada’ business and institute a public transport system that would meet the needs of commuters.
