All is set for the smooth take off of pilgrims from Tamale to Mecca for this year’s Hajj.
Two thousand, eight hundred (2,800) prospective pilgrims are expected to be airlifted from the Tamale International Airport in the Northern Region.
The first flight is expected to take off Wednesday at 1pm with four hundred and ninety two (492) would-be-pilgrims.
Preparations are advanced ahead of Wednesday’s flight.
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and it is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Makka, Saudi Arabia.
It is a mandatory religious duty that must be carried out at least once in the lifetime of an adult Muslim who is fit to undertake the Hajj activities.
The first batch of Pilgrim started arriving at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium when GBC’s Radio Ghana visited the venue.
Joint security personnel were in the inner perimeter to maintain peace and order.
A Member of the Regional Communication Team of the Hajj Board, Alhaji Haruna Eliasu, advised the pilgrims against carrying contraband goods to Makkah.
Alhaji Eliasu said they were working for hitch-free flight for the prospective pilgrims to Mecca.
Alhaji Eliasu said all Hajj agents and their members have been duly scheduled to avoid overcrowding.
