The Daily Graphic is of the view that the flagship agricultural programme, Planting For Food and Jobs being championed by the current government is worthy of mention. According to the paper the success chalked up by the programme is largely to do with the influence and drive of the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto. The paper lauds government for instituting the programme and also, all the people responsible for making it work. As the paper praises the initiators of the programme, it is nevertheless worried, that some people are introducing negative elements into the programme, such as smuggling of fertiliser to neighbouring countries, a practice, which if not checked, could derail all the gains made so far. It therefore urges the sector ministry to liaise with the Ghana Meteorological Agency, to give the right forecasts to farmers, so that they do not plant in anticipation of rains. The Graphic believes that if all stakeholders play their part well, Ghanaians will enjoy the benefits of this program.

As Ghanaians welcome news that Anglogold Ashanti has re-opened, The Times is excited that government is making strenuous efforts to breathe a lease of life into strategic state assets that have collapsed. The paper commends government for resuscitating the mining company, and asks that steps are taken to ensure that the people of Obuasi , and for that matter Ghanaians enjoy the full benefits of such projects. It also urges management of the mine to be proactive and not repeat the mistakes of the past which resulted in the closure of the mine. The Times urges the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the regulatory agencies to check illegal miners whose activities impact negatively on the mine to ensure it is safe and beneficial to all.
