The Ghanaian Times writes on the creation of new regions for which a referendum has been scheduled for December 27. The paper advises all interest groups as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to be realistic in their demands because of the huge capital outlay required in putting structures in place for efficient and effective regions and MMDAs. The Times is of the view that in order for the new regions and MMDAs to reap the benefits, there should be very prudent, transparent and honest use of the resources available and MMDAs must take the local economic development initiative very seriously. This, the paper believes, will encourage government to push more resources to the deprived and poor regions for development.
