Immigration officers intercept farm inputs being smuggled to Togo at Saboba

Immigration officials at Saboba have intercepted a vehicle loaded with agrochemicals and knapsack sprayers heading to Togo.

The District Chief Executive for the Saboba district George Bingrini in a telephone interview with GBC news confirmed the incident saying the District Security Council is taking details of the goods and will soon make that public.

The Saboba district which shares a common border with Togo has been cited in news reports in the past as a major route for smugglers.

Government’s subsidized agricultural inputs especially fertilizer is one of the major goods smuggled through the area.

“Upon intelligence, we swiftly moved in to apprehend the suspects when the items were being offloaded at Boagban, a suburb of Saboba and handed them over to the police for further investigation. The driver and his mate are also in custody assisting the police with investigation,” the DCE said.
