Government says despite an initial capital injection of four point five million cedis to help revive the operations of Ayalolo Bus Services, its operations continued to suffer losses.
This led to suspension of their operations last year. The lack of routes to allow for the free movement of Aayalolo buses under the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Accra, and the lack of money to run the bus service in terms of purchase of fuel and payment of remuneration for drivers and managers were cited as are some of the challenges which led to the suspension of the Aayalolo Bus Rapid System.More than 170 Aayalolo buses have been grounded at the Achimota bus terminal in Accra, while another 60 deployed to Kumasi for use are yet to start operations.
However, to revamp the operations, the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Local Government and Finance Ministries are in processes to restructure the operations of the current Aayalolo operations to make it operational sometime this year.
The Minister of Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah made this known when he took his turn at the Meet The Press Series in Accra.
