ASFAR’s push for a podium finish at the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup ended on Sunday, February 1, 2026 after the African champions fell 4-0 to Gotham FC in the third-place playoff at the Emirates Stadium in London.

The Moroccan side arrived in London as CAF Women’s Champions League winners and one of Africa’s strongest representatives.

Khyah Harper opened the scoring midway through the first half before Savannah McCaskill and Jaedyn Shaw added two more goals before the break. Midge Purce completed the scoring early in the second half.

Despite missing out on the podium, ASFAR’s run to the semifinals remains a strong showing for African women’s football. The Moroccan side defeated China’s Wuhan Chegu Jiangda earlier in the tournament to become the only African club to reach the final four.

The tournament also carried major financial rewards. Arsenal women, who were champions earned $2.3 million and runners-up Gotham FC and Corinth SC took home $1 million each.

These financial rewards are so far the highest prize money ever rewarded in women’s club football, ASFAR’s appearance at the tournament highlights Africa’s rising presence in global women’s football, as more clubs gain international exposure through FIFA competitions.

The Women’s Champions Cup brings together champions from six regions and offers African clubs a rare chance to test themselves against top teams from Europe and the Americas on a global stage.
