The Concerned Traders and Residents of Agbogbloshie have issued a two week ultimatum to government to reconstruct the main  road linking Agbogbloshie market from the Central Mosque through to Galloway.

At a news conference in Accra, the spokesperson for the group, Frederick Opoku said they will go on demonstration if government fails to to heed to their plea.

Mr. Opoku said due to the bad nature of the road, they have lost huge sums of money.

Some traders and residents were clad in red attire and headbands to register their displeasure about the state of affairs in the agbogbloshie enclave.

The group comprised residents, commercial drivers, vegetable traders, chiefs and market executives.

The Spokesperson of the group, Frederick Opoku said since 1981 the road has not seen any facelift upon the economic value it presents.

He added that the state of the road has collapsed many jobs and rendered many jobless.

Agbogbloshie lies on the banks of the Korle Lagoon, northwest of Accra’s Central Business District.

It is one of many slums around the area, and developed in the early 1990s during the tribal wars in Northern Ghana, when the government relocated refugees with intentions of repatriating them after the war.

This plan fell through, and currently, around 100,000 Ghanaians, including refugees, live in Agbogbloshie.
