Anja Karliczek: German Federal Minister for Education and Research visits WASCAL

The German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Mrs Anja Karliczek has entreated member countries of West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, WASCAL, to address their financial commitment to the organisation for its long term sustainability.

Mrs Karliczek who was on a two-day visit to the WASCAL headquarters in Accra reiterated the importance of science and research in the collaboration between Africa and Germany.

She said climate change and other factors including urbanisation do not only affect national and regional development but also global sustainability.

Mrs Karliczek’s visit coincided with the Third WASCAL Ministerial Council Meeting.

WASCAL seeks to provide information and knowledge at local, national and regional levels to its West African member countries to cope with the adverse effects of climate change. This is through capacity building of young West African scholars in fields of climate, natural and social sciences.
