An officer with the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service met his untimely death on Friday, September 13, 2019.

Inspector Foster Ampomah was overrun by a DAF truck after the driver ignored a signal by the officer to stop.

The incident occurred at a checkpoint at Nante Zongo along the Kintampo-Jema highway in the Bono East Region.

The truck was from the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga and heading to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyawu who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the officer was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

He said the body has been deposited at the Kintampo Hospital morgue pending further investigations.

The driver, Awudu Sumaila, 30, and his mate, are in policy custody assisting with investigations.

He is the third traffic officer to have been killed in the line of duty in two weeks, after two of his colleagues, Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal, were shot dead by occupants of a vehicle they accosted after they refused to heed to their signal to stop.
