The Ghana Police Service says it has recovered a cache of suspected illegal firearms and ammunition from an arms trafficking suspect who abandoned the package and fled after noticing he was under surveillance.
The Police explained that despite a coordinated search operation in the area, the suspect managed to escape. However, investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect and determine the source and intended destination of the weapons.

According to the police, the incident occurred on January 27, 2026, following intelligence that an unidentified individual was transporting arms and ammunition from the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange towards the Agbogbloshie Bus Terminal, with Kpandai believed to be the final destination.
A surveillance team was immediately deployed and tracked the suspect, who was riding a blue Royal motorcycle.
Police said the suspect became aware of the trailing officers and dropped several parcels wrapped in black nylon bags before fleeing the scene.

A search of the abandoned packages revealed one A-Tac semi-automatic shotgun, two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns, and two boxes of cartridges containing a total of 500 BB cartridges.
