A brilliant strike by substitute Chrestina Kgatlana five minutes from time handed South Africa a dream start in the African Women Cup of nations as they beat defending champions Nigeria 1-0 in their Group B opener in Cape Coast Sunday.

Banyana Banyana gave a good account of themselves right from the start of the game.

The Nigerians came close to scoring on a number of occasions, but the efforts were squandered.

In the other group game, Zambia walloped former champions, Equatorial Guinea by five goals to nil.
