Workers of the Ghana Bauxite Mining Company at Awaso in the Western Region have demonstrated again over poor working conditions.

The workers decimated some offices of the company as well as some company vehicles in the process and also set the head office on fire on Monday.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, the Acting Secretary to the Ghana Bauxite Company, Serlom Bemah said the demonstration was to get better working conditions.

He said the first demonstration did not go well, adding that it was not the intention of the workers to go to the extreme but things got out of hand.

In March this year, the angry workers embarked on a similar exercise to demand better working conditions. In their earlier demonstration, the workers complained that the company was not paying their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions.

They also expressed their reservation about their unsafe working environment.
