Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region is in dire need of good road network as the dusty nature of their roads is hindering teaching and learning at the school.

According the Headmaster, Edwin Odame Amoah and some students who spoke with GBC’s Radio Ghana, water has also been one of their challenges as the school population is increasing hence the need for the government, old students and other bodies to come to their aid in providing them with additional water supply.

This came to light as old students of the school had their 5th National Congress to raise funds to construct a 1000-seater capacity library complex at an estimated cost of about ¢5 billion for their Alma Mater.

The 5th National Congress of PRESEC, Bechem Old Students Association was under the theme: “The Nobles Dream-Our Library Project-a Catalyst for Our Alma Mater’s Drive into Academic Excellence”. It was attended by old students of the school from far and near, staff and students of Bechem Presec.

The event also saw the Election and swearing in of National Executives of the association.

Addressing the occasion, the headmaster of Bechem Presec, Mr. Edwin Odame Amoah expressed appreciation to the old students for having the welfare of the school at heart while urging the students to desist from the use of mobile phones whiles in school.

Mr Amoah in an interview outlined lack of good road network, bungalow for teachers and additional water supply as their main challenge while calling on the government, the old students association and other benevolent individuals to come to their aid.

Some students expressed worry as the dusty nature of their road and inadequate water supply hinder their academic work.

“Sometimes when we get to class, our uniforms get dirty that we feel uncomfortable in class. We also most at times walk to Bechem township in search of water which sometimes make us late for class and its affecting our academics.”

The newly sworn in President of the association, Snr DSP Jeremiah Alale tells Radio Ghana the objectives of the library project which started 4years ago. He indicated the about 5 billion Ghana cedis estimated project will see the capacity of 1000 people after completion as the school population is increasing with an office complex for the association.
