5 persons out of the 18 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Bono region have recovered with the youngest aged 11.

The Bono Regional Deputy Director, Public Health, Dr. John Ekow Otoo, who revealed this to GBC’s Radio Ghana in an interview, said the remaining 13 patients are in self-isolation and are being managed by the Ghana Health Service and are responding to treatment.

He said the cases were discovered through routine and enhanced surveillance, adding that, there might be other infected people out there.

Dr. Otoo further expressed worry over the rate at which the virus is spreading in the region.

He stated that the Ghana Health Service has mounted a search for two persons who have tested positive for coronavirus and are on the run in the Bono region.

The two—a chainsaw operator in Banda and another person from Jaman north—tested positive after samples taken from them tested positive for covid-19.

On the safety protocols especially, the wearing of masks, Dr Ekow Otoo said there is more to be done to ramp up adherence to help stop the spread of the virus.

Ghana’s covid-19 cases continue to increase in all 16 regions in the country having cases. The Bono region, which recorded 5 cases a few days ago, has seen a sharp rise with the current number of confirmed cases at 18. Out of the number, five have recovered, including an 11-year-old girl.

Of the 18 cases, there is one each in Sunyani Municipal, Sunyani West, Berekum West and Banda. There are four cases in Dormaa Central and the Jaman North District where the first case was recorded has the most cases with 10.
