The Headmaster of Bueman Senior High School, Frank Kwamena Boamah, has appealed to the government, alumni, parents, and well-wishers to come together in support of the school’s development. Speaking at the launch of Bueman SHS’s 65th Anniversary celebration in Accra, he highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly in infrastructure and essential facilities and stressed the importance of a united effort to sustain and advance the institution.

Bueman Senior High School, popularly known as BUSEC, is a public, non-denominational and co-educational institution offering both boarding and day facilities. The school, named after the Buem State, was established in 1960 by the late Christopher Kwaku Nayo of Old Baika, an indigene of the Buem Traditional Area. Its establishment received the full support and blessings of the chiefs and people of the Buem State.

The school which started with just twelve students (eleven boys and one girl) and a staff of five (three teaching and two non-teaching) has grown significantly. Today, Bueman Senior High School has a student population of 3033, supported by 155 teaching and 42 non-teaching staff. BUSEC is widely recognized as one of the leading senior high schools in the Oti Region, known for its commitment to academic excellence.

President of the Bueman Old Students Association (BOSA), Charles McCarthy, urged current students to uphold the proud legacy of the school, encouraging them to stand tall, rise higher, and aim high. He also called on alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and offer support to the best of their ability.

He recounted, “To our current students, you are the torchbearers of this legacy and as we reflect on our past, let it inspire you to reach greater height”.

The daughter of the Proprietor, Elsie Nayo who represented the family, said they are committed to nurturing and developing a new generation of young people. She emphasized that Bueman is not solely focused on academics but also on cultivating leadership and preparing individuals who will contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation.

“As we look back in Sankofa we also look forward to shaping and developing a cadre of young people who can hold their own anywhere in the world. The world our students will inherit is fast changing, complex and full of promise”.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the Technical Advisor to the Minister, Prof. George Oduro, said following recent reports of indiscipline in senior high schools which have raised national concern, the Ministry is working with the Ghana Education Service to implement proactive interventions focused on a strong moral framework to address the issue.

“Recent reports of indiscipline in some of our Senior High Schools have raised national concern. It is never unheard of in our country that secondary school students will pull out belts and lash a teacher”, he added.

As one of the oldest educational institutions in the country, Bueman SHS launched its 65th Anniversary under the theme “Honoring our Past, Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders” and unveiled its anniversary logo and cloth.
