A Banking Consultant and Lawyer, Dr. Richmond Atuahene, says no bank has the right to reject coins which is a legal tender in Ghana.

According to him, it does not matter the volume of coins anyone sends to the bank for deposit and once it is genuine money, the bank is obliged to accept it.

Dr. Atuahene was reacting to a report where a bank teller had tried to turn away a client who had gone to the bank to deposit ₵10,000 made up of only coins.

However, Dr. Atuahene said it is against the directives of the Bank of Ghana to be trading in coins.

He cautioned those at traffic intersections and along major roads whose business is to change coins for commercial drivers to desist from the practice. He said anyone who needs coins is supposed to go to the bank for them.
