No Ghana Post GPS, no business registration – Registrar General

Businesses without digital address system of their places of work will with effect from today not be allowed to register their businesses. This has become necessary as the Registrar General’s Department strives to reduce the bureaucratic systems associated with doing business in Ghana.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, the Registrar General, Jemima Oware stated that the growing number of Small and Medium Enterprises in Ghana, requires the streamlining of the processes to promote the ease of doing business, hence the need for the reforms.

The World Bank in it’s Business ranking of start- ups ranked Ghana 108th in the ease of doing business among 190 countries and 114th in the number of days needed to register a business.

The Registrar General, Mrs. Jemima Oware indicated that the reforms, has become imperative as the realignment of the processes, procedures and regulations will aid in promoting a business- friendly environment.

Under the new reforms, stakeholders like the Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA, SSNIT, MMDAs and Ghana Post are being integrated by the Registrar Generals Department, for the different systems to share information readily in real-time to improve operations at their offices.

The Head of Corporate Communication at Ghana Post, Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, entreated individuals and organizations to visit the Ghana Post Website at www.ghanapostgps.com, or google play store to download the GPS app to get their digital address.

The Director Research, Statistics and Information Management at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Dorothy Onny, who welcomed the reforms said obtaining a Business Operating Permit through the RGD, will now be enhanced and less cumbersome.
