Ghana’s President Mahama cordially received a delegation from the World Chinese Business Advancement Association (WCBAA), led by its Chairman Li Nonghe, in the capital, on June 23, 2025. The delegation included prominent Chinese entrepreneurs such as Fan Yurong, Chairman of the Beijing Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce; Lin Duansheng, Chairman of Oriental Grandeur Group; Chen Zhixiang, President of the Asia Unification Promotion Association; and Lin Ruibin, WCBAA Overseas Secretary-General and Asia Regional General Manager of Alpha Synergy Energy Co., Ltd.

Upon meeting Chairman Li Nonghe, President Mahama embraced him warmly. The President remarked, “We are old friends. I first met Mr. Li in Dubai in 2022, where we formed a deep friendship. At that time, I was relatively unknown, but he welcomed me generously and appointed me as Honorary Chairman of the Association. I told him then that I would be elected President in the next term, and now my aspiration has been realized.” Li Nonghe responded, “Our primary purpose in visiting Ghana is to congratulate you on your re-election as President. Although our Association received an invitation from representatives of Chinese businesses for your inauguration ceremony, we were unable to attend at the time due to a critical conference we were hosting.

We hope you will accept this belated blessing.”

Historical Context: July 9, 2022– Chairman Li Nonghe presented the Letter of Appointment to Dr. Mahama.

Donations Cement Friendship

During the visit, delegation member Zhejiang Zhongnan Group donated the five-year broadcasting rights for the 500-episode animated series Tianyan (Magic Eye is Back), co-produced with China Central Television (CCTV), to the Republic of Ghana. The donation ceremony was presided over by Professor Amin Alhassan, the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting

Corporation (GBC) and the head of Ghana Television. The Ghanaian government regards this donation as a significant symbol of enduring friendship and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Additionally, Jiangsu Pacific Monocle Pharmaceutical Group entrusted the delegation to donate pharmaceuticals valued at US$1 million to the Ghanaian Elderly Security Fund (primarily for treating targeted ailments). President Mahama expressed profound gratitude for this contribution.

Deepening Economic and Trade Exchanges

The delegation, which included Chinese entrepreneurs such as

Han Shengli, Chairman of UAE Boli Investment Company; Jiang

Weiwei, Chairman of Shanghai Haohan Culture Media Co., Ltd.;

Wang Shijin, Chairman of Shanghai Zhongsheng Jincheng

Industrial Equipment Co., Ltd.; and Li Chao, Chairman of Shanghai Chusan Film Group, engaged in extensive discussions with Ghanaian counterparts across multiple sectors. Key areas of focus included the photovoltaic industry, electric vehicle assembly, mineral investment and extraction, infrastructure construction, real estate, energy development, healthcare, and waste management. Although no formal agreements were signed during the visit, intensive follow-up and implementation efforts commenced immediately the day after the delegation returned to Hong Kong.

Crucial local insights and important networking opportunities were provided to the delegation by established Chinese figures in Ghana, including:

Xu Ningquan: A Chinese entrepreneur with over 30 years in Ghana. He is the sole foreign investor owning large-scale oil refineries and steel plants in the country and has been conferred a traditional chieftaincy title.

Duan Dezhi: Chairman of Huashan International Group (ranked 364th on the Fortune Global 500 list), the builder of numerous iconic structures in Ghana.

Tang Hong: Chairman of Tang Palace Hotel, President of the Ghana Federation of Chinese Associations, and a senior community leader residing in Ghana for over 30 years.

This highly fruitful visit not only conveyed deep friendship through cultural donations and philanthropic acts but also established broad cooperative intentions with Ghanaian partners in critical industrial sectors, including photovoltaic, electric vehicles, minerals, infrastructure, real estate, energy, healthcare, and environmental protection.
