The price of bread in the Northern Region is expected to go up by 50 percent following a meeting of the Bread Bakers Association in Tamale.

The decision follows a two-day strike that led to the shortage of bread in the Northern Region especially in the Tamale Metropolis.

The bakers earlier served notice that they were going to demonstrate in Tamale, but called it off and rather held a meeting where they agreed to increase prices of bread.

The Acting Secretary of the Bread Bakers Association of Tamale, Evans Oduro, revealed that a hike in the cost of inputs is the reason for the increase in prices.

“We have realized that the price of flour is very high, and the price of sugar is the same. This is killing us. The same applies to flour. Supplies are going to increase, and we have to adjust our prices, so that at the end of the day, we can stay in business.”
