Government has been asked to support women in the poultry industry with soft loans and equipment to improve their businesses.
This is one way to encourage more women to go into poultry farming to enable them to get a source of livelihood.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Agriculture, Rev. John Manu said this at the inauguration of the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the ‘Apex Body of Women in the Poultry Value Chain’ in Kumasi.
Rev.Menu observed that most woman do not have the opportunity to be empowered like their male counterparts.
He said women play significant roles in the value chain and must be given the needed support to thrive in their businesses.
A poultry Consultant and a Senior Lecturer at the Veterinary School of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr.Peter Boakye-Yiadom advised women in the poultry value chain to complement each other’s efforts to make the industry more vibrant and profitable.
The National President of the association of Apex Body Women in Poultry Value Chain’,Victoria Norgbey said women feature at every stage of the poultry value chain as key managers of the poultry business but lack the prerequisite expertise for a viable profitable poultry business.
Hence the formation of the association to address the specific needs of women towards a profitable poultry industry.
