Cabinet approves 500K improved cookstoves distribution to rural dwellers

Ghana is lagging behind in the attainment of target six of the Sustainable Energy for All Action Plan. The plan aims at deploying two million units of improved cook stoves throughout the country by the end of this year.

The target will be missed because the manufacture of the stoves is not progressing as expected. To speed it up, cabinet has given approval for 500,000 improved cook stoves to be manufactured by the first quarter of this year.

The first phase of the project which will cost five- point -five million dollars is sponsored by the South Korean government.

A Deputy Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy, Seth Mahu in an interview with GBC’s Joyce Gyekye said six regions have been selected as the focus for the first phase of the improved cook stove redistribution program.
