The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has announced a significant increase in prize money for the continent’s top club competitions beginning with the 2025/26 season.

Under the new structure, the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will receive $6 million, following a $2 million increase in the prize purse. The adjustment represents a 50% rise compared to the previous reward.

The champion of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will also benefit from a $2 million increase, bringing the total prize money for that competition’s winner to $4 million. That change effectively doubles the previous amount and marks a 100% increase.

CAF says the move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen club football across the continent and improve financial support for participating teams.

With the latest adjustment, total prize money and solidarity payments distributed to African clubs will exceed $42 million per season, according to CAF. The organisation says that represents a 114% increase in financial support to clubs since Motsepe’s election as president.

The increases are expected to boost competitiveness in African club football and provide stronger financial incentives for teams participating in the two continental tournaments.
