The National Identification Authority’s Ghana Card mob-up registration exercise for the Upper East Region which was expected to start on June 8 rather began Friday, June 19 with a lot of challenges.
GBC’s Upper East Regional Correspondent Samuel Ayammah reports that machines for the registration which were supposed to have arrived for the exercise to take off by 7a.m. did not arrive on the 18th as scheduled but rather on the 19th at 12: 00 pm.
At Bugre in the Tempane District, some of the people GBC’s Radio Ghana spoke to said they were irritated by the frustrations of the mop-up exercise.
In an interview, the Assembly member for Bulpielisi Electoral Area in the Tempane District, Tahiru Rahaman Youreba, expressed worry about the situation.
At Zambala in the Tempane District, a resident, Daniel Abu said since the NIA card is a basic requirement for the compilation of the new voters’ register, there is the need for all Ghanaians to have cards.
