Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, has publicly addressed the recent decision by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to initiate legal action against him and Mr. Andy Thomas Owusu.
The charges, which stem from the widely publicized “Galamsey Fraud” scandal exposed in a 2019 investigative report by Tiger Eye P.I., include alleged misuse of public office for personal gain and corruption.
In a press statement dated April 29, 2025, Mr. Bissue firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I categorically assert that I have always acted in full compliance with both the legal and ethical obligations of the office I held and the laws of the Republic of Ghana.”
He dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and promised to vigorously challenge them through due process.
Mr. Bissue welcomed the OSP’s decision to move forward with the case after more than five years of investigations, calling for transparency and fairness.
He urged the OSP to present an unedited and unaltered version of the investigative video as evidence, emphasizing that Ghanaians deserve access to “unvarnished truth and factual evidence, free from distortion.”
Noting the political context of the prosecution, which comes under a new government, he expressed hope that the proceedings would remain impartial.
“This process will allow all parties an equitable opportunity to present evidence and that the facts will be evaluated fairly, without bias,” he said.
He also appealed to the public to refrain from passing premature judgment and to respect the legal process, stressing the need for justice rooted in transparency and the rule of law.
