The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi has attributed the successes chalked up in the resolution of various chieftaincy disputes in the Eastern Region to the leadership qualities of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.

Delivering the key note address during the launch of the 20th Anniversary of the enstoolment of the Okyenhene, he said Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin played a key role in settling disputes during his tenure as President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

Mr. Dzamesi also commended the Okyenhene, together with the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu in bridging the gap between the Akyems and Ashantes which hitherto existed between the two traditional tribes.

He outlined some of the achievements of the Okyenhene in the past twenty years and sought for God’s guidance and good health for the king.

The Chief of Tafo, Nana Adusei Peasah, who was the chairman for the occasion said, the achievements of the Okyenhene have not been beneficial to the people of the Akyem Kingdom alone, but to Ghanaians in general.

He commended the Okyenhene for his immense contribution towards education, health and protection of the environment. Nana Adusei Peasah disclosed that the Operation Cover the Earth which is an initiative of the Okyenhene is targeted at planting twenty five million trees in the next five years.

This, he said, will restore dignity to the diminishing state of forest cover in the region and to complement global reforestation actions.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin was enstooled the overload of the Akyem Kingdom in 1999 after the death of his predecessor, Osagyefuo Kuntunkununku, who was his elder brother.
