A member of the Regional Institute for Population Studies, Professor Stephen Kwankye has reiterated the need for migration surveys to be conducted annually.

Speaking at a round table on the need and uses of population estimates and demographic information in Ghana, Professor Kwankye said to avoid misleading data, there is the need to adopt a more demographic approach to gathering timely and accurate data in the country.

It emerged at the round table that population census is not merely counting people but also to measure fertility, mortality and predict demographic trends. Having accurate data has enormous benefits for policy and planning purposes.

Addressing participants, a government statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim stressed the need to forge closer collaboration with other institutions in making data easily accessible.

“As a country, we should not miss the 2020/21 March date that we’ve set for the census.”
