The death toll from covid-19 in the Northern Region has increased from six to nine, while the number of infections in the region now stands at one hundred and sixty three.
A Deputy Regional Director of Health in charge of clinical, Dr. Braimah Abubakari disclosed this in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Tamale Monday, July 06, 2020.
The Northern Region recorded its first cases of the pandemic on March 29, by ten foreign Nationals who allegedly entered the country using unapproved routes following the closure of the borders.
The disease has been rising steadily since, with community infections accounting for nearly ninety percent of cases.
Despite the development, attitude towards the pandemic in the region remains negative as most residents ignore safety protocols such as social distancing, wearing of face mask and regular hand washing.
Dr. Abubakari decried this negative attitude and entreated all to observe the protective protocols.
