The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially inaugurated a 15-member Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS).
The Council, chaired by Ambassador Abdulai Salifu, has been tasked by the Minister to lead efforts to improve infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.
Addressing council members after administering the oath of office, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, commended the UDS for impacting northern Ghana’s development through its Third Trimester Field Practical Program, TTFPP.
He also praised the University for demystifying the medical profession.
He said, until the UDS started courses in medicine, nursing and other allied medical courses, many qualified students from Northern Ghana were left out due to distance and financial challenges.
He expressed the hope that, the University will soon increase access to legal education in Northern Ghana with the admission of the first batch of law students to the university this year.
The Chairman of the Council, Ambassador Abdulai Salifu, pledged the council’s commitment to usher the UDS into a new era of teaching, learning and innovation.
