Benkum Senior High celebrates 70th anniversary

The Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Michael Bossman has commended government for the introduction of the new curriculum which engages the minds of the pupils in making analytical decision.

This according to him is a step in the right direction to improve the quality of education in the country and ensure its development.

Rt. Rev. Bossman gave this commendation at the climax of the 70th anniversary of Benkum Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

He tasked stakeholders especially the old students to support the school with the necessary infrastructure.

The Benkum Senior High School which was established in 1949 is one of the pioneer Senior High Schools on the Akwapim ridge and thus had a cheered history in its 70 years of existence.

The school has over two thousand student population and has for the past 70 years churned out many human resource personnel into the fields of health, education, security and politics, among others.

The Headmistress of the school, Philomena Aku Beddu, commended the government for the implementation of the free SHS policy as it has lessened the burden of parents and increased enrolments in the various second cycle institutions across the country.

This, she noted will help reduce the illiteracy rates in the country. Ms. Beddu indicated that the theme for the celebration “Mobilizing Stakeholders Commitment for Quality Education, building our School for a Common Goal”, is appropriate as it will help bring on board all stakeholders to help address the challenges confronting the school.

She also commended teachers, old student association, parents and other stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways for the growth of the school.

The Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Michael Agyarkwa Bossman, noted that with the emergence of advanced technology and proliferation of information in the world, there is the need for Information Communication and Technology to be made compulsory at the second cycle institutions across the country.
