President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana Telecommunications University College, GTUC, Emmanuel Owusu Twum, has given a nine-day ultimatum to government to set up a University Council for the College or face a demonstration.
He gave the ultimatum at a news conference in Accra where students also registered their displeasure about the intended strike by their lecturers.
According the lecturers, though the effort of government at initiating the process to making GTUC a full public university is commendable, the bill is taking too long to pass, as it still remains at the executive level.
Early on in a news conference September 25, the chairman of the GTUC Lecturers Association, Dr. Samuel Kingsford Seglah said, “the document has been going back and forth in the system for sometime,” adding, that “the delay in forwarding the bill to Parliament for passage is unthinkable.”
