The Head teacher of the Methodist Unit for Special Needs Children at Adukrom Akuapem in the Okere District of the Eastern Region, Sylvia Tandoh, has made a passionate appeal to individuals, philanthropists, NGOs and benevolent organisations to financially support the school to take care of the children.

Madam Tandoh made the appeal when the CEO of Achievers Catering Services at Akropong- Akuapem, Mary Adi-Bruce, as part of celebrating her 40th birthday, donated some items worth thousands of cedis and a cash amount of one thousand Ghanaian cedis to the School.

Madam Sylvia Tandoh, commending the kind gesture of Mrs. Adi-Bruce, demonstrated her worry about how some parents of the children are not being supportive of their wards, which is making their work very difficult. She bemoaned that fueling the school bus to transport the children to and from school has become difficult, while the vehicle is also in a deplorable state that requires maintenance.

She appealed to well-to-do Ghanaians, benevolent organisations, and philanthropists to replicate the kind gesture of Mrs. Adi-Bruce to help the school take care of the special needs children.

The CEO of Achievers Catering Services at Akropong-Akuapem, Mary Adi-Bruce, speaking to the media during the donation, hinted that, as part of celebrating her birthday, she thought it wise to donate some items to the children with special needs to help relieve some of the caretakers’ burden.

She reiterated that the donation is to let the children with special needs know that they are part of society and society has not neglected them.

The items include detergents, toiletries, learning materials such as pencil, crayons, drawing and writing papers, study posters, books, and packs of water among others. She also had a buffet with the kids after the donation.

The Methodist Unit for Special Needs Children at Adukrom-Akuapem was established in 2007 by the Methodist Church in Ghana and approved by the government to care for children with special needs.

The school, which has 33 children, is classified into Ability One and Ability Two depending on the capabilities of the children. Ability One has fourteen boys and four girls, while Ability Two has ten boys and five girls.
