National Skills Development Competition slated for November 6

The Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) is set to organize the first ever National Skills Development Competition at the Trade Fair Center from November 6th to 9th. The competition is expected to inspire world class excellence in skills development and introduce the youth to a variety of skilled careers.

The theme for the Competition is “Skills for Jobs and National Development.”

Speaking on Uniiq FM Breakfast show, the Executive Director of COTVET, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah said the competition is to not just compete but to create awareness on the importance and significance of skill development to national development.

Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah said the it is also to ensure that the youth who are the future leaders of the nation, will be equipped with the necessary skills to develop the nation.

“The fundamental thing that everybody needs to be able to do a good job, is to have skills” he noted

Mr. Asamoah further explained that Ghana is preparing to join the World Skills International Competition, an international event where the youth from various countries represent their countries and compete in various skilled categories.

He added that, the winner of the national competition will represent Ghana in the Africa Skill Competition (2018) in Kigali and the World Skill Competition (2019) in Russia.

He therefore appealed to the public, especially heads of second cycle schools to encourage their students to participate in the competition.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to grace the opening ceremony of the Competition.
