Haven of Love Children’s Foundation has identified poor school infrastructure and poor school environment as major challenges confronting basic schools in the Garu, Binduri and Tempani Districts in the Upper East Region.

During a distribution of school uniforms to some pupils in the area, it came up that many children in the northern part of the country go to school either in torn and old uniforms or in tattered clothes.

Founder and CEO of Haven of Love Children’s Foundation an NGO operating in the Bawku West District, Samuel Nana Bekai Djirackor observed that;

“Many children in deprived communities cannot afford lunch in school. Same way, they are unable to afford school uniforms. They go to school in anything they can lay their hands on. And this has an influence in their studies. They wouldn’t take studies seriously because they wear the same clothes to social gatherings and to school too. That is what we are talking about,” Mr. explained.

Over two hundred and forty school uniforms were distributed to the children in the three Districts.

“Poor infrastructure, lack of furniture and poor school environment are some of the things we observed moving to these schools. You’ll agree with me that the school environment is the second home of the pupils and should therefore be conducive enough for their studies.”

While the beneficiary children commended Haven of Love Children’s Foundation for the support, their teachers appealed to other NGOs for such support in the form of footwear and books for the children in the area.
