The leaders of three Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers have kicked against the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, GES.

They argued that there are more qualified people in the Education Sector who can hold that position.

The General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah, said while Teachers with Banking Certificates are not recognized, it beats ones imagination why someone with banking background should head an institution that manages the affairs of Teachers.

For his part the President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, King Ali Awudu, said it appears education is being toyed with in this country.

Meanwhile, Labour Expert, Austin Gamey, has asked government to listen to concerns of the teacher unions on the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah, as the Acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service, GES.

Speaking on Behind the News, Mr. Gamey said while the President has the mandate to appoint, the agitation by the teacher unions is a sign of bad blood and difficult time ahead for Dr. Nkansah.
