The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Osei Adjei, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to continue the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) initiative started by the previous government, describing it as crucial to the nation’s future development.

Speaking at this year’s New Juaben North Municipal Education Directorate Science and Maths Quiz competition for Junior High Schools at Asokore in the Eastern Region, the MP stressed that discontinuing the initiative would negatively impact the country’s growth trajectory.

He said, “Any attempt by this government to abort the initiative will affect the future growth of the country.”

The Science and Maths quiz aims to promote academic excellence, foster intellectual competitiveness, and encourage students to develop problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The programme provided a platform for pupils to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in science, mathematics, robotics, and other related subjects. It featured challenging questions, engaging quiz rounds, and enthusiastic participants.

This year’s competition was sponsored by Mr. Solomon Kumah, a native of Koforidua-Effiduase based in the United States of America. It saw a keen contest among Effiduase Presby Basic “A”, Effiduase R/C Basic “B”, and SDA College Demo Basic “B” Junior High Schools.

At the end of the contest, Effiduase R/C Basic “B” placed third with 47 points. Asokore SDA College Basic School came second with 57 points, while the ultimate prize went to Effiduase Presby Basic “A” with 61 points, emerging as three-time champions of the event.

Nana Osei Adjei commended the New Juaben North Education Directorate for the initiative and pledged his continued support to expand the programme.

The New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Adongo, also reiterated the importance of STEM education in unlocking the potential of the country. He pledged the Assembly’s support to further encourage STEM-focused learning in the municipality.

He also urged students to remain disciplined and committed to their studies in order to achieve their goals in life.

Certificates of participation and cash prizes were awarded to all participating schools.
