The Ministry of Education and UNICEF Ghana are pleased to announce the approval of a three-year Systems Capacity Grant (SCG) from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) worth $2.23 million.

According to a statement issued by the UNICEF Ghana office on February 21, 2025, the grant will take effect from January 2025 and end in December 2027.

This initiative, it noted, aims to strengthen Ghana’s education sector by enhancing systemic capacity, improving policy planning, and fostering sustainable educational reforms.

“As the designated Grant Agent, UNICEF Ghana will oversee the implementation of key initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The SCG will support, among others:

* Strengthening boys’ and girls’ education programming at national and decentralized levels.

* Reviewing and updating the Education Sector Medium-Term Development Plan to align with national priorities.

* Enhancing national capacity for crisis-sensitive and resilient education sector planning to address emerging challenges.

* Supporting the development of Education Sector Performance Reports to improve accountability and monitoring.

* Building district-level capacity for data collection and analysis to enhance evidence-based decision-making.

Osama Makkawi Khogali, UNICEF Ghana Representative, emphasised the grant’s significance: “This GPE grant will be instrumental in strengthening key areas of Ghana’s education system, including data utilisation and inter-sectorial coordination. This will enable us to deliver quality education for every child.”
