Some communities in the Chereponi District of the North East Region, have been hit by Famine. Hundreds of families, majority of them children, are in dire need of food across communities affected by last year’s communal clashes.

Children in these communities show signs of malnutrition. Residents  explained that most of them could not farm last year, while those who managed to cultivate some crops had their farms destroyed in the conflict.

Animals including goats and sheep were also killed in the clashes, leaving the victims with nothing to fall on. They are therefore appealing for urgent help to alleviate their plight.

The National Peace Council has called on government and development partners, to go to the aid of the victims.

Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Fr. Thadeus Kuusah, expressed concern about the future of  children in the area, which he says, is in danger.
