GBC holds festival of nine lessons, carols

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has held its annual festival of Nine Lessons and Carols to usher in Christmas. It was attended by a cross section of the clergy, Board and Management of GBC, staff and friends of the Corporation.

The service on Tuesday under the theme: “Celebrating a King like no other”, started off with an opening prayer by the Minister in charge of the Darkuman Society Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Nana Apau Gyekye. Also, the programme was graced by a wonderful poet, Hotrof Senyo and a unique prelude  by Patrick Addoquay.

Acting Director General of GBC, Augustus Yawson said, “the Carols of the nine lessons have become a ritual here in GBC and it has enabled us to celebrate the birth of Christ with our friends and colleagues by sharing our joy, successes and failure with one another.”

Lessons were read by the chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo; the Board chairman of GBC, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo Obeng; Corporate Communication Manager Vivo Energy Ghana, Madam Shirley TONY KUM; the Head of Radio News GBC, Mr Teye KITCHER; Acting Director of Marketing GBC, Mrs Clare BANOENG- YAKUBU; Resource person GBC Radio, Mr. Daniel Dugan.

The rest of the lessons were also read by Managing Director of Media Brain, Evangelist Dr. Albert Forson; Mrs Gaisie of GTV News and the Director of Evangelism of EP Church Ghana, Rev. Emmanuel Antwi TUMFUOR.

The service had the GBC Ever Green Choir, Revival Choir- Kotobabi Down, Royal Philharmonic choir interspersing the Bible readings with melodious Christmas carols.

Giving the Christmas message, Vicar General, Cath. Archdiocese of Accra, Monsignor Francis Adoboli said, “the birth of Christ is a blessing for us all for we should appreciate the relationship between humans and the environment and that we have failed as stewards of the earth due to negative human activities.”

He then advised that we should change our behavior as we mark the birth of Christ.

To end the night, Apostle Ekow Bedu- Woode of the Church of Pentecost (COP), Area Head, and Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah of the church of Pentecost, Nungua Area Head gave the closing remarks, benediction and intercessory prayer.
