Reports trickling in indicate that twelve people have died and several others have been injured during a military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Ghana.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) earlier in a press release indicated that six people have died and several injured following a stampede at the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise being held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
The Press release issued by GAF said the tragic incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. when a large number of applicants breached security protocols and forced their way into the stadium before the official start of the screening process.
The statement noted that six potential recruits lost their lives, while many others sustained injuries during the rush. The injured are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.
“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise affected individuals,” the statement said, adding that arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased.
GAF expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Meanwhile, media reports on the incident indicate that the death toll has risen to twelve.
