Ghanaian coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has guided Kenyan giants Gor Mahia to the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title, with the club crowned champions two matches before the season ends.

Gor Mahia, led by Akonnor, finished with an unassailable lead after rivals AFC Leopards lost 2–1 away to APS Bomet, giving them 68 points and a four‑point cushion at the top.

Gor Mahia’s coronation came despite their scheduled weekend match against Mara Sugar being halted over a dispute about the venue, which led the Sports Disputes Tribunal to intervene and prevent the club from playing.

The title was secured purely on points, after AFC Leopards dropped the necessary points, confirming Gor Mahia’s record 22nd league title in Kenyan football history.

Charles Kwablan Akonnor has previously managed Ghana’s Black Stars and several top Ghanaian clubs, including Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and the now‑defunct Ashantigold.

During his time at Kotoko, he led the team into the group stages of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup, adding to his experience in continental competition before taking charge of Gor Mahia.
