The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has disclosed that the government has accepted recommendations for the families of persons who lost their lives and those who sustained injuries during the 2020 and 2024 general elections to be compensated.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the minister said the decision follows findings from the Special Investigation Task Force established to probe incidents of electoral violence across the country.

According to him, the Task Force uncovered 12 major cases of violence, resulting in 15 deaths and 40 injuries. The report recommended monetary compensation for affected families, particularly in areas such as Techiman South, Odododiodio, Ablekuma Central, and Savelugu, where the victims either lost their lives or suffered serious injuries due to the use of live ammunition during crowd control.

Muntaka stated that the report has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for advice and implementation of the compensation process. He emphasized that the state has a moral and legal responsibility to support victims and their families, especially those who lost breadwinners as a result of the incidents.

“The government is committed to ensuring that families of the deceased and those who suffered injuries during the election violence receive appropriate compensation,” he assured.

The minister further reaffirmed government’s resolve to uphold peace and prevent similar occurrences in future elections.
