Gov't keen on making urban road network transport hub in West Africa

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has urged the Department of Urban Roads to ensure that official road construction documents go through the right procedure for efficiency.

Speaking at the 2019 Management Meeting of the Department in Koforidua, Mr. Amoako- Atta, disclosed that the urban road network in Ghana is 17 thousand kilometers, out of which paved roads network constitute 63 percent, 23 percent are fairly good and 14 percent are poor roads.

This according to the Minister falls below government’s desire to make the country’s urban road network a Transport Hub in West Africa.

The Roads Minister, Kwesi Amoako Atta, outlined some of the projects being undertaken by the Urban Roads Department as the Pokuase Interchange in the Greater Accra Region and the Lake Road in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

He disclosed that Parliament has approved the first tranche of $646 million out of the total of $2 billion of the Sino-Hydro project for the construction of six major projects.

They are, the construction of Accra inner city roads, Kumasi inner city roads, Tamale interchange, Takoradi interchange, Cape Coast and Prestea inner city roads and the construction of Sunyani and Berekum inner city roads.

The Director of the Department of Urban Roads, Dr. Abass Mohammed Awuni, advised artisans working on the Road projects that as public servants, their work is visible to all ,as they must serve with honesty and truthfulness.
