Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced the recruitment of 13,500 nurses and midwives to strengthen frontline healthcare services. He also assured that all newly employed health workers who experienced salary delays will receive their payments by the end of the month.

Speaking at the GRNMA 19th Biennial Conference in Tamale, the Minister highlighted that the new recruitments support reforms under the Free Primary Healthcare and Mahama Cares programmes. He added that government is considering the negotiated Conditions of Service for inclusion in the 2026 Budget, and has already fully regularized promotions for nurses and midwives.

He further called for continued cooperation between government and labour unions to improve deployment, specialist training, and overall workforce stability.
