Ghanaians are set to benefit from expanded access to critical medicines and vaccines following a new agreement between the Ministry of Health and global pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Under the partnership, Pfizer will supply its full portfolio of patented and off-patent treatments to Ghana on a not-for-profit basis, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare equity and affordability across the country.
This major commitment was announced in a Facebook post by Ministry of Health on 3rd July, 2025. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Health in Accra, served to deepen collaboration between the Ministry and Pfizer as part of Ghana’s broader health sector reforms.
In attendance also were Mr. Ali Besri, Head of Pfizer’s Accord, and his delegation.

According to Mr. Akandoh, the medicines to be made available through this agreement include innovative treatments for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory conditions, and other pressing health needs. He revealed that the not-for-profit model aligns directly with the government’s goal of ensuring no Ghanaian is denied care due to cost.
“This partnership marks a crucial step in delivering lasting impact for patients across Ghana. The synergy between Pfizer’s Accord initiative and the Mahama Cares Program gives us the opportunity to transform access to care, especially for those most in need,” the Minister said.
The Pfizer Accord is a global initiative aimed at supporting healthcare systems in low- and middle-income countries by ensuring long-term access to high-quality treatments, including breakthrough therapies and essential medicines. The partnership with Ghana represents the Accord’s mission to reduce health inequities and build more resilient health systems through public-private collaboration.

The meeting also explored how the Pfizer partnership could support the newly launched Mahama Cares Program, a flagship health policy focused on system-wide reforms, increased access to healthcare, and improvements in infrastructure and service delivery.
The Health Minister reiterated the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving these goals and welcomed Pfizer’s continued engagement with Ghana’s health agenda.
“We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Pfizer to ensure no Ghanaian is left behind in accessing the care they need,” he added.
Mr. Ali Besri and his team also affirmed Pfizer’s readiness to support Ghana’s public health priorities and work closely with the Ministry to ensure effective implementation of the Accord framework.
