The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, has described the Mahama Care initiative as a “game changer” that will transform healthcare in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, Mr. Adongo said the initiative will not only improve access to quality healthcare but also provide support to people with serious illnesses who cannot afford treatment.

“This is a game changer that will revolutionise healthcare in our country,” he said. “It provides a safety net for terminally ill patients and includes plans to offer free primary healthcare to all Ghanaians.”

The Mahama Care initiative, launched by the government on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, marks a major step forward in efforts to support people suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney failure, and stroke.

Mr. Adongo explained that the programme is part of a broader plan to build a fair and efficient system that ensures all citizens benefit from national resources. He added that the scrapping of the electronic levy (E-levy) and other regressive taxes demonstrates the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to social justice.

“We are taxing fairly and spending wisely,” he said. “Ghanaians are beginning to trust the system because they can see that their taxes are being used to help those who need it the most.”
