The Chief Executive Officer of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), Dr. Sania Nishtar, has commended the Ministry of Health for its efforts in malaria prevention, particularly among children.
During her visit to St. Gregory Catholic Hospital and the Nyanyano Community Health Centre in Ghana’s Central Region, Dr. Sania Nishtar highlighted Ghana’s remarkable progress in malaria prevention, particularly with the rollout of the four-dose malaria vaccine.

Dr. Nishtar described Ghana’s achievement of 80% coverage for the third dose of the vaccine as a leading example for other African countries.
She acknowledged the collaborative effort behind this success, including the leadership of the Ministry of Health, the dedication of frontline health workers, and strong community engagement.
Dr. Nishtar also recognised the challenging conditions under which health workers operate, including serving displaced populations and navigating difficult terrains.
She emphasized that international institutions like GAVI are in Africa to serve and pledged continued support for Ghana’s health priorities.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Dr. Hafiz Adams expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to sustain efforts to eliminate malaria, particularly among children.
The Ministry also thanked healthcare professionals and community partners nationwide for their dedication to saving lives and improving health outcomes.
